Musicfest Nationals - Ottawa
May 15 - 18, 2019 Kodiak musicians journeyed once again to our nation's capitol to participate in Musicfest- The Nationals. With five groups performing, our days were busy, as we also managed to fit in several concerts, a trip to the National Museum of History and a walking tour of Parliament Hill and area. Music Monday - May 6
Bear Creek musicians headed over to Innisdale S.S. to join with students in their program to celebrate Music Monday, a nationwide event created to celebrate and promote music in schools. Performing outdoors, the students enjoyed a sunny day and the joy of making music together. Northern Ontario Music Festival
On March 1, Bear Creek musicians once again made the trek to Sudbury to participate in the Northern Ontario Music Festival, hosted by Sudbury Secondary School. We always look forward to going back, but this year presented a new problem. With growth in our various ensembles, we needed two buses to get us all there. Once there, we gave many fine performances, receiving many accolades and invitations to Nationals, but once again the most prized award we received was the Spirit of the Festival Award, given to the school that demonstrates the most positive attitude and captures the spirit of what the festival is about. We are so proud of our Kodiak musicians! Seasonal Sounds
On Thursday, December 6, here at Bear Creek, bands and choirs filled the air with a festive spirit as we hosted our annual Seasonal Sounds concert. Once again the musicians ranged from the future Kodiaks in the cub band to senior students leading the bands and choirs through a variety of music new and old, fast and slow. First Light Once again, choirs from Bear Creek made the journey to Ste. Marie among the Hurons in Midland to participate in their First Light festival. Something new this year... Fireworks! We watched a spectacular display right over the village, and then went inside and performed for a packed theatre. Included in this year's performance was a brass trio. East Coast Trip
Twenty-nine Bear Creek musicians packed their bags and headed to Halifax as Bear Creek Music heads east. The tour runs from May 17 to 21, and includes workshops for band and choir at Dalhousie University, a shared performance with a local high school and several sight-seeing trips to explore the history and beauty of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Check back in a month for pictures of our great adventure. Kodiak 5 go to Nationals Be sure to give members of the Kodiak 5 a high five for their work at Nationals on Monday, May 14. Despite having to travel up and down the 400 they were able to take in several events at the festival. They should be very proud of the silver rating they earned for their performance. Fanfare 2018On Thursday, May 10, over 80 present and future Kodiaks took to the stage to entertain a very appreciative audience as part of Fanfare 2018, our annual spring show.
Barrie Music Festival Stars concertOn Wednesday, May 2, Bear Creek returned to Hi-Way Pentacostal Church with two of its ensembles, Lorelie and the Kodiak 5. They joined a line-up of featured performers from this year's Barrie Music Festival. Yet one more chance to hear some of the excellent music that has been put together this year by Kodiak musicians.
Mid-day with ShigeruOn Wednesday, April 4, 2018, Bear Creek musicians once again took to the stage as part of the Mid-day with Shigeru concert series hosted by the Barrie Concert Association. The concert featured performances from all three choirs, as well as the Kodiak 5 and solo performances on piano and trumpet. A small but very appreciative crowd braved the weather to take in the event.
Collingwood Musicfest 2018At the beginning of March, Bear Creek's bands returned to Collingwood to participate in the Musicfest regional band festival. For a change, we traveled in good weather. It was a busy day, with lots of bands to hear, including the four Bear Creek ensembles that performed. Congratulations to Wind Ensemble, Concert Band and the Kodiak 5 for earning Gold ratings, and an invitation to Nationals, held this year in Toronto. Congratulations also to Debut Band for their silver rating. For many in the band this was their first festival experience.
Ontario Vocal Festival 2018On February 28, Concert Choir, Sonix and Lorelei traveled to Caledon to participate in the Ontario Vocal Festival. In addition to performing, the singers listened to a day full of choirs from all across the GTA, including an amazing lunchtime concert by the Mayfield Magnetics. Each ensemble had a workshop with one of their adjudicators, working to improve on elements of their performance. It was great to be part of an event that was all about the choirs, and a special one as it marked Sonix's festival debut.
